Hi folks, I am sure the title of
the blog would have made you fancy that this blog will be all about how
ruthless the chinese were in 1962 and how valiantly we fought and lost, I am
sorry if you had this is mind, quit reading it right away.
Now, that you have decided to
brood in further, this blog is about our festivals and festivities. Did you
just say..”what the…”. Hold on, read further.
There was a time, when Diwali
meant clay lamps, home- made sweets, crackers and blah blah….Not that it’s my
first Diwali but this Diwali was the first one which I had been away from my
parents and hence a Diwali with my own “so called nuclear family”. The stress
on this word means, I had to shop for everything. I am sure you must have been
thinking, what’s so great about it and why am I reading this common homely
chores. But this is where I came across the major Chinese invasion, an attack
which is probably more powerful than the military attack which we know about of
1962, this time it’s economic and not military.
When I went for shopping from the
list which I had carefully jotted down after a 30 minutes conversation over
phone, the hawker was more enthusiastic in selling me the Chinese electric
lamps rather than those clay lamps. I tried my best dodging the sale, however
there was more in store to stump me further. Went to buy the Ganesh Lakshmi
idols which used to be of clay though I was not surprised to find them of ceramic now
(technology has advanced now), but what surprised me more was they proudly bore
the stamp of “made in China”. Come on
guys, even the idols of my hindu Gods are being imported from the land of mandarins!!!!.
The home-made sweets have been
replaced with imported chinese chocolates. The crackers too (albeit poisonous)
are now “made in china”. And visiting elders too are just a video call away on
your chinese smart phone. How things had changed? How everything which was “ours”
is now “made in china” What do you call this? Is this not an invasion? Is
invasion not about winning everything which was yours? Today everything which
was associated with Diwali and which was Made in India is now being Made for India
by the mandarins.
High time we hold our horses and
get our house in order and high time we go ga ga over the “Make in India” else
it might not take too long that we shall need someone to start the “swadeshi
movement”.
Well after reading this, do brood
over the issue, see how you can avoid products of the madarins, howsoever cheap
it may be (because that’s the only USP these products have)!!! As of now a very
happy diwali!!!
